Government's Decision To Celebrate Earthquake Safety Day In Kirtipur

Jan 12, Kathmandu- This year's main event under the Earthquake Safety Day, celebrated every year on Magh 2, is to be held in Kirtipur Municipality. The Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, holding a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday, announced that this year's Earthquake Safety Day will be celebrated in Kirtipur with the slogan "Earthquake has taught: With strong structures and strong preparedness."

The program to be organized by the main event committee on the occasion of the day will be attended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and others, informed the Department's Director General Machakaji Maharjan. He said that before the program to be held at the BP Koirala Memorial Science Museum in Kirtipur, a public awareness rally will be taken out from various places in Kirtipur. In addition to the main event, programs such as seminars, discussions, rallies, interactions, exhibitions and others have been organized across the country on the occasion of the day, informed Director General Maharjan.

The department has stated that various agencies are effectively carrying out activities to reduce seismic risk, from pre-preparedness to post-earthquake rehabilitation. Earthquake Safety Day has been celebrated since 2055 BS in memory of the great earthquake that struck Nepal on Magh 2, 1990 BS.
