Government lawyer's argument against Rabi in Kathmandu - Forget the Kaski court order, keep him in detention here

Jan 13, Kathmandu- A heated debate is ongoing at the Kathmandu District Court over whether to send Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane to detention or release. Lamichhane appeared in court on Sunday after a chargesheet was filed for embezzling funds from the Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative.

The government lawyers are currently arguing in the hearing that began on Monday. So far, District Attorneys Khadindra Raj Katuwal, Chandra Sanjel, Santosh Raj Katuwal, Radhika Suwal, and Bina Khadka have argued.

They all have insisted that Lamichhane should be sent to detention for trial. They argue that it would be reasonable to send Lamichhane to detention based on the evidence immediately available.

District Attorney Khadindra Raj Katuwal claimed that Rabi Lamichhane had spent Rs 490 million from the cooperative by cutting checks at different times. He also said that Rs 26.5 million had gone to Gorkha Media from Swarnalakshmi Cooperative. He told the court that Lamichhane and GB Rai had opened a joint account to take an auto loan.

Similarly, Chandra Sanjel mentioned that the cooperative's money was spent by cutting 820 checks. He said that Lamichhane should be held in custody while Kumar Ramtel and Chhabilal Joshi, among others, gave false statements. Similarly, Santosh Katuwal said that it appears that he personally spent the cooperative's money by creating an artificial loan without collateral to Gorkha Media.

Six government lawyers are yet to argue on behalf of Jaherwal. After their arguments are over, legal practitioners will argue on behalf of Rabi Lamichhane.

Police investigation has concluded that Gorkha Media Network illegally took Rs 57.898 million from Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative Society. A demand for Rs 57.898 million has been made against Rabi.
