4,000 Per Month For 6 Months For A Woman Who Has Given Birth

Jan 13, Kathmandu- Gandaki Rural Municipality of Gorkha has decided to provide Rs. 4,000 per month for six months to postpartum women to protect them from malnutrition. The recently concluded 17th village assembly of the rural municipality decided to provide Rs. 4,000 per month for six months to postpartum women in Gandaki Rural Municipality, informed Deepak Timelsana Sakar, chairperson of Gandaki Rural Municipality. 

According to him, the municipality has decided to provide Rs 4,000 for six months to pregnant women to provide them with nutritious food, as the number of babies born to mothers with weak financial status is increasing.

"Currently, the rural municipality has been providing free health checkups to pregnant women within the rural municipality on a regular basis," said Health Branch Inspector Bimal Regmi. "We believe that the improvement in nutrition will lead to improvements in children."

Health Branch Inspector Regmi informed that the municipality has been providing free ambulances to take pregnant women within the municipality to health institutions and also bearing the necessary expenses for underprivileged women. 

The rural municipality has allocated Rs. 2.2 million for postpartum women to improve nutrition, and if the amount is insufficient, the municipality will decide again and increase the amount, the rural municipality has stated.
