Jan 13, Kathmandu- The government has declared a public holiday across the country tomorrow, Magh 1. 

A holiday has been declared across the country on Tuesday to mark the Maghi festival of the Tharu community.

On the first day of Maghi festival, i.e. Paush 29, it is customary to celebrate the festival by killing a pig and eating nice food. This Maghi festival is the biggest festival of the Tharu community.

Since the new year of this community begins in the month of Magh, it is customary to celebrate the Maghi festival as the new year with great fanfare from the last day of Paush to Magh 2nd.
