Jan 17, Kathmandu- US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed famous American actors Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson and Jon Voight as Hollywood's 'special envoys'.
Trump says he appointed them as ambassadors with the aim of making Hollywood stronger than ever and bringing back business lost in foreign markets.
Trump wrote on his social media account Truth Social on Thursday, "It is an honor for me to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors for the great but very troubled place of Hollywood, California."
He previously wrote, "They will act as my special envoys to bring Hollywood back to the foreign lands that have lost so much business over the past four years. There will be a bigger, better, and stronger Hollywood than before."
"These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will do whatever they suggest. Like the United States, Hollywood will have a golden age," he wrote.
Trump's announcement comes just days before he is to be sworn in as president in Washington, D.C. It also comes against the backdrop of wildfires destroying thousands of homes and buildings in Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood.
Many businesses are struggling to recover and are expected to lose more than $250 billion. Domestic box office revenue in 2024 was also down from the previous year, as the Hollywood release calendar that year was affected by a writers' and artists' strike.
Stallone, Gibson and Voight have been Trump supporters in recent years. Stallone introduced the president-elect as a second George Washington at a gala held at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in November. Gibson has been vocal in his support of Trump and has criticized Kamala Harris' intelligence ahead of the 2024 election. Voight spoke in depth about his praise of Trump in a Variety cover story last year.
