Jan 18, Kathmandu- British scientists have said they have found nearly 200 dinosaur footprints in a mine in Oxfordshire, UK.
The discovery, which dates back to the Jurassic period and is believed to be around 166 million years old, has thrilled researchers. The discovery is considered the largest of its kind in British history.
Researchers believe these footprints could be part of a vast dinosaur highway, which traces the paths dinosaurs took at the time. The highway has been marked by footprints of 9-meter-long predatory dinosaurs and herbivorous dinosaurs such as Megalosaurus.
Researchers believe that these footprints were left when these dinosaurs were on the beach or in search of food.
The discovery was made by miner Gary Johnson, who noticed these strange-looking craters while extracting limestone for road construction in 2023. Since then, this strange discovery has attracted the attention of paleontologists.
Researchers from the Universities of Oxford and Birmingham studied these footprints and found that they were connected in a complex network.
The University of Birmingham said in a press release that the discovery will help understand dinosaurs' life and behaviour during the Jurassic period. Scientists believe that the trackway may have been formed on the seashore because there was a small distance between the sea and the land at that time and it is clear that dinosaurs used this area for walking at that time.
