Four Killed In Russian Attack In Kyiv

Jan 18, Kathmandu- Ukraine's foreign minister said four people were killed in a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Saturday. At least three people were injured in the attack, while another attack in the southern city of Zaporizhia overnight injured at least 10 people, the regional governor said.

Although Kyiv is frequently targeted by Russian drones and missiles, deaths in the capital are rare because the capital is heavily protected by Ukrainian air defense systems. Ukrainian security forces are better able to repel attacks in Kyiv than in other parts of the country.

“Four people have died in the Shevchenkivskyi District,” Timur Skachenko, the head of the military administration in Kyiv, said in a Telegram post, referring to a central area of the capital. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed outrage at the attack on social media, writing, “This is yet another proof that Putin wants war, not peace.”

He said, "We must force them to accept a just peace through maximum economic and military pressure." The Ukrainian Air Force said it had shot down two Iskander ballistic missiles and 24 Russian drones.

But the missiles reportedly landed in the central Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, damaging areas including industrial buildings, the metro and residential buildings, and temporarily disrupting local water supplies.
