Jan 19, Kathmandu- A case has been filed against 42 people, including Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, on charges of fraud at the Supreme Cooperative in Butwal.
Assistant District Attorney and Information Officer Umakumari KC informed Lokantar that the charge sheet was filed at the Rupandehi District Court on Sunday.
She said that a charge sheet has been filed and is in the process of being registered. The police had taken a statement from Lamichhane, saying that he had misused the cooperative's money by bringing it to the Gorkha Media Network.
A supplementary prosecution has been filed against Lamichhane, as a case has already been filed against the cooperative's manager.
An amount of Rs 19.4 million was deposited into Rabi Lamichhane's account from Supreme Cooperative in Butwal. However, Lamichhane has been saying that he is not aware of the amount.
Previously, cases have been filed against Lamichhane in the Kaski District Court for fraud against Suryadarshan Cooperative and in the Kathmandu District Court for fraud against Swarnalakshmi Cooperative.
Both courts released Lamichhane on bail.
Lamichhane, who was arrested on Kartik 20 in connection with an investigation into cooperative fraud, was released on Paush 25 after spending 84 days in custody.
Even then, he remained in detention for 3 days by order of the Kathmandu District Court.
