Jan 20, Kathmandu- The number of problematic cooperatives in Bagmati Province is increasing. Recently, the Bagmati Province government has declared three more cooperatives as problematic. With this, the number of cooperatives declared problematic in Bagmati Province has reached five.
According to Rajan Pokharel, Registrar of the Provincial Cooperative Registrar's Office under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Cooperatives of the provincial government, Sumeru Saving and Credit Cooperative, Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Laligurans Savings and Credit Cooperative, Kathmandu, and National Namobuddha Savings and Credit Cooperative, Kathmandu, have recently been declared problematic.
Registrar Pokharel said that the cooperatives were declared problematic due to non-fulfilment of financial obligations, failure to return the savings of savers when demanded, and failure to act according to the action plan despite making an action plan to return the savings.
Among those declared problematic, Laligurans Savings and Loan Cooperative and National Namobuddha Savings and Loan Cooperative have been locked, Registrar Pokharel informed.
Earlier, the provincial government had declared Civil Savings and Credit Cooperative in Kathmandu and Darshan Savings and Credit Cooperative in Kirtipur, Kathmandu as problematic cooperatives.
Registrar Pokharel said that Darshan Cooperative was declared problematic on Kartik 21 and Civil on Bhadra 21, 2080 BS.
Registrar Pokharel said that savers have filed complaints against more than 137 additional cooperative organizations operating in the province for not returning their savings, and the registered complaints are being investigated. According to him, letters have been sent to the police office to take action against the directors of 80 of them.
Registrar Pokharel informed that letters have been sent to the concerned district police offices to take action against the directors of cooperative organizations that do not return the savings of savers and do not respond to letters to resolve the problem.
According to him, most of the cooperative organizations that have been written to the police office for action are from the three districts within the valley.
