Announcement Of $500 Billion Investment In AI

Jan 23, Kathmandu- The world now belongs to generative AI (Artificial intelligence). Considering the possibility that China will take advantage of this if it is not taken forward now, Open AI, Oracle, and SoftBank have established a new company. Stargate will spend up to $ 500 billion in the coming days. Such a large-scale project is said to create at least one hundred thousand jobs in the United States. Initially, the infrastructure required for AI is being built in the state of Texas, according to CNN.

With the names attached to Stargate, it's impossible to predict how big the project will be. Sam Altman is the CEO of the now-famous AI company Open AI. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son is a Japanese investor.

It is said that he has money from all over the world. Billionaires from all over the world entrust their money to him to invest. Similarly, Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison has long been in the top ten list of billionaires in America. His Sun Microsystems is a famous company for data protection and storage.

The tech world has been watching with interest as these three companies were established and announced by President Donald Trump on Tuesday afternoon. Trump described the AI infrastructure plan as the largest infrastructure project in history.

Trump said at the Stargate announcement that he would build both physical and artificial infrastructure to power the next generation of AI.

Some experts are opposed to such massive infrastructure. Running such data centers requires a huge amount of computer chips, electricity, and water to cool them. Experts warn that their needs will take away from electricity and water needed for other common people.

Just as the Internet was the medium of everything before and America managed to overtake everyone in that race, similarly, the medium of the world today will be AI. It seems that any work done using AI as a medium will create a market. Therefore, AI experts believe that it is necessary to pay attention to AI infrastructure.

China is currently competing with the US in almost every field. It is no less in the creation of AI, but experts say that this step is necessary to maintain its dominance over AI, just as the US had dominance over computer operating systems.

AI is expected to have an impact on everything from the economy to military capabilities. Open AI's Altman has already been urging the US administration to focus on investing in AI infrastructure. Speaking to Fox Television last month, he said, "AI infrastructure is extremely important for America's progress. AI is different from other software because it requires huge infrastructure, power, computer chips and data centers. Only if we are able to build the best AI infrastructure in the world can we lead in technology and skills".

China has made great progress in hardware over the past few decades. Even American companies themselves use hardware from Chinese companies like Huawei. Stopping their use and creating new devices requires huge investment. Altman said that the government should work seriously because that investment will create jobs and economic opportunities. The attraction of AI projects around the world is so great that billionaires from all over the world have invested in them. Currently, this fund is estimated to have $175 billion.

Analysts have been predicting that the US must attract those funds; otherwise, they will go to projects initiated by China. They also predict that the more investment goes to China, the more the world will strengthen and influence the Chinese Communist Party worldwide.

Oracle said after the investment was announced that the Stargate project would reindustrialize the United States and not only protect the national security of allied countries but also enhance strategic capabilities.

Open AI will operate Stargate technically, and SoftBank will raise and disburse the necessary funds. MGX, an investment institution from the United Arab Emirates, has also been brought in to partner with it on other strategic needs.

Stargate is expected to be chaired by SoftBank chairman Sun. Since the company was announced in the presence of the US president, some have questioned its success. Sun's track record of success is mixed.

Not only that, in 2017, Trump announced that he would build a massive $10 billion electronics factory in Wisconsin in partnership with Foxconn. The factory was expected to create at least 13,000 jobs, but Foxconn abandoned most of its production plans. Finally, in 2021, the company announced that it would invest only $672 million. It is said that it will create fewer than 1,500 jobs.

Former President Joe Biden had argued for regulating the development of AI. On Monday, Trump removed provisions that address the risks of AI and its monitoring and regulation. The world is now watching with interest to see how successful the project will be and what role it will play in curbing China's growing artificial intelligence power.

Believing that AI is the future of the world, Microsoft recently announced plans to invest $80 billion to build data centers specifically for AI. It is building AI data centers in partnership with investment institutions like MGX and BlackRock. These two companies have committed $100 billion. Amazon has also announced two of its projects and said it will spend $10 billion in two months.

Last year, research firm McKinsey predicted that global demand for data center capacity would triple by 2030, growing by 19 to 27 percent annually through 2030. The demand for such data centers is so high that the number of data centers built since 2000 will need to double by 2030. This would require so much money that it would have to deal with problems such as land shortages, the speed of completion, and government approvals.

As the demand for such data centers also requires energy, awareness has been raised that this could also affect the daily lives of the general public.
