Driving Licenses With QR Codes Being Issued From Now

Jan 27, Kathmandu- Driver's license (driving license) with QR code will now be available.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has amended the Vehicle and Transport Management Regulations to allow the issuance of driving licenses with QR codes.

The amended regulations state, "The driving license issued under Rule 20 shall be issued in the form of an electronic identity card, electronic smart card or card with QR code".

This means that the government can issue new licenses with QR code only. Until now, the government had been making the license smart and providing the driving license (electronic identity card) in the form of an electronic smart card.

It has been arranged that an identity card with a QR code can be issued after it takes rain to get a smart license. It is believed that a license card with a QR code can save time and end the obligation to wait for years for the printing of smart cards.
