Thailand in race to become champion after defeating Netherlands

Feb 03, Kathmandu- Thailand has defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs in the ongoing women's T20 series in the capital.

In the match played at the Tribhuvan University Ground in Kirtipur today, the Netherlands, chasing a modest target of 87 runs set by Thailand, were all out for 69 runs in 15.5 overs. Captain Babette de Liede top-scored with 25 runs for the Netherlands. Iris Willing top-scored with 13 runs. Similarly, Caroline de Laas scored 10 runs.

Earlier, Thailand, who had lost the toss and elected to bat first, had lost all their wickets in 19.5 overs and scored a total of 86 runs. Chanida Suthiruang top-scored with 27 runs for Thailand. Fannita Maya top-scored with 12 runs.

For the Netherlands, Iris Willing, Eva Leach, and Silver Sirges took two wickets each, while Isa Bel van der Ley took one wicket. This is the second consecutive loss for the Netherlands to Thailand. Earlier, Thailand had won the first match against the Netherlands by eight wickets.

The participating teams in the series will play each other three times. The team at the top of the points table will be the winner. Nepal will play Thailand tomorrow.
