Trump Gifted With A 'Golden Pager'

Feb 07, Kathmandu- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented US President Donald Trump with a “Golden Pager” during a meeting at the White House.

The gift was presented to symbolize the turning point in the war against Hezbollah following Israel’s September 2014 attack on the Lebanese Islamist group, according to a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office.

“This strategic operation demonstrates Israel’s strength, technological superiority and ingenuity against its enemies,” the statement said.

According to Lebanese officials, Israel stunned Hezbollah with a series of “pager attacks” on the same day. The attacks killed dozens of fighters and injured thousands when pagers and walkie-talkies exploded.

Israel launched a ground offensive in southern Lebanon in late September, aiming to push Hezbollah back from the border.

Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in late November, ending more than a year of Israeli bombardment and attacks in southern Lebanon.

However, Israeli forces are still active in parts of the neighboring country. The three-month ceasefire expired on January 26, but the Israeli military has not withdrawn its troops from southern Lebanon by the deadline.

Israel has made it clear that it has no intention of meeting the initial deadline, arguing that the Lebanese army has not complied with the agreement to the letter.

It has also continued to carry out occasional airstrikes there and has now set a February 18 withdrawal date.
