Issue Of Bipin Joshi's Release Raised In Parliament

Feb 11, Kathmandu- The issue of the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is being held by the Palestinian group Hamas, has once again been raised in the House of Representatives meeting. National Janamorcha President Chitra Bahadur KC raised the issue in the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday. He has also demanded that the government inform the parliament about the initiatives being taken for Joshi's release.

He said that even though it was heard that Joshi was alive outside, the government had not provided any official information and asked, "What efforts is the government making for Joshi's release?"

Chairman KC said that Bipin Joshi of Kanchanpur was not found, citing the fact that fifty thousand people died in the Israel-Hamas conflict and that citizens who had been arrested in many countries were released after the peace agreement between the two sides. He said, "Shouldn't the government inform the parliament about this?" He said that the government's responsibility would not be fulfilled just because Bipin is alive and added that the government should inform the parliament about the efforts and struggles it is making for his release.

On 25th Magh, Speaker Devraj Ghimire had written a letter to the Chairman of the Arab Parliament, Mohammad Ahmed Al-Yamahi, for the early release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who was kidnapped by Hamas. The government is taking diplomatic initiatives for Joshi's release. Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Ari Bash had also suggested that parliamentary diplomacy could be used for Bipin's release in a meeting with the Speaker. According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the issue of Bipin's release has been raised repeatedly from the Qatari Embassy in Bhainsepati (Lalitpur) to the Amiri Diwan in Doha.

President Ram Chandra Poudel and the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had attached great importance to Amir Al Thani, who arrived in Nepal last April, and requested him to facilitate Bipin's release as soon as possible. After it was confirmed that a second ceasefire would be reached between Israel and Hamas on Magh 1, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba called Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi and requested him to take the initiative for Bipin's release.
