Regular Helicopter Flights Still Not Resumed In The Everest Region

Feb 13, Kathmandu- The problem with regular helicopter flights in the Everest region has not yet been resolved. Helicopter flights, which have been suspended since January 1, have not been restored even after a month and a half.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, local youth groups, and other organizations, as well as the Sagarmatha National Park, had banned helicopter flights in the area since January 1. After that, helicopter companies also stopped emergency flights.

Although the service providers agreed in a meeting held on Magh 11 to remove the obstacles to emergency services and negotiate for regular flights, the parties concerned have not shown any willingness to remove the obstacles despite repeated meetings. Now, the Sagarmatha National Park has backed down from its decision not to allow helicopter operations.

After flights have not been able to resume for about a month and a half, seven organizations related to the tourism sector have stressed that the problems seen in the sector are beyond the law and that they should be resolved through talks and dialogue to resolve the problem immediately. The meeting organized by the association last Monday was attended by representatives from the Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Mountaineering Operators Association Nepal, NATA, TAAN, Hotel Association Nepal, and Confederation of Nepalese Industries.

The statement said that if the restrictions and restrictions continue, it will not only send a negative message to the international community, but also cause the tourism industry to collapse, and it will also put a huge financial burden on the helicopter companies, forcing them to close their businesses, and will result in the loss of jobs for employees working in the helicopter companies.

The Airline Operators Association of Nepal and its member companies have also decided to move forward unitedly to resolve the problems currently being faced in the sector.
