Feb 14, Kathmandu- A Nepali marijuana smuggler has escaped from the control of the Jharokhar police station in Motihari district of India, Bihar, which borders Rautahat and Bara.
Laxmi Narayan Shah, 25, of Pipariya village, Maulapur municipality, Rautahat, who was arrested with 43 kg of marijuana in a vehicle with an Indian license plate, escaped on Friday morning.
According to Indian police, they had gone to the field near Jharokhar police station to defecate at 6 am and fled towards the Nepali border after tricking the watchman and police.
The Nepali border at Dash Gaja is located at most 500 meters away from Jharukhar police station. The District Police Office, Motihari, has informed that the station's watchman Ram Avatar has been suspended after he fled.
According to Motihari SP Subarna Prabhat, watchman Ram Avatar, who tried to defecate without handcuffs, has been immediately suspended and a team led by Rakshaul DSP Dhirendra Kumar has started an investigation into the incident.
SP Prabhat has informed that an FIR has been registered against Sah at Jhaukhar police station immediately. He informed that there is a provision that bail cannot be obtained from the court in such FIR cases.
43 kg of marijuana was seized by the Indian Border Security Force (SSB) at Jhaukhar Chowk on Thursday while it was being transported to India in a car with registration number BR 1 PB 0111.
After the suspension of the watchman, locals have demanded that Jhaukhar police station chief SAI Abhay Kumar Singh be suspended as well, saying that he is also guilty.
