Feb 18, Kathmandu- President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has appeared at the Kathmandu District Court. RSP Chairman Lamichhane, who was released on bail for embezzling funds from the Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Government Institution in Kalimati, has reached the District Court today to find out the date.
Kathmandu District Court had sought a bail of Rs 6 million from Lamichhane after a closed hearing. A case has been registered against 39 people, including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSP) Chairman Lamichhane, on charges of embezzling funds from Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Government Organization. Lamichhane, along with GB Rai, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, GB's brother-in-law Deepak Lama, treasurer Kumar Ramtel and manager Navin Achhami, who were involved in the embezzlement of funds from Swarnalaxmi Cooperative, have been named as defendants.
In the cooperative fraud case, 690 people have given 93 statements. Police investigation has revealed that 2.65 billion 95 million 59 thousand 58 rupees were misappropriated from 5,669 savers in the cooperative. Police investigation has shown that 648 million 38 thousand 465 rupees were transacted from the cooperative to Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Ltd.
