Feb 18, Kathmandu- A professor who verbally abused a Nepali student studying at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, has apologized.
Manjusha Pandey, a professor at KIIT University, apologized by posting a video on the social media platform Facebook.
She took to social media to apologize after the Indian police launched an investigation into the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal and the incident of abuse against Nepali students.
She said in a video, "I would like to apologize for the abuse I committed against Nepali students inside the college on February 16. The college administration has no involvement in the abuse I committed against Nepali sentiments. Therefore, I would like to apologize again to the Nepalese."
Earlier on Monday night, Manjusha Pandey had insulted and taunted Nepali students inside the college, telling them to go wherever they felt safe. Another woman who was with her had even insulted her, saying, "Our university has a bigger budget than your Nepali budget, we are housing you here and feeding you for free."
As they continued to abuse each other, the Nepali student asked, "What did we do wrong?" Manjusha Pandey said, "We don't know. Please leave here immediately. Otherwise, the police will come and take action."
Lamsal, 20, was found dead in the hostel on Sunday afternoon. After that, Srivastava tried to escape and go home to Kolkata. However, he was arrested at the airport amid widespread pressure.
Police have seized the mobile phone of Advik Srivastava, who was arrested in connection with the death of Prakriti Lamsal at KIIT College in Odisha, India.
Arrested on charges of abetting Lamsal to commit suicide, he has been remanded in judicial custody for investigation, Bhubaneswar police said. It is also said that his mobile phone has been seized as evidence since Monday.
