Rekha Gupta Takes Oath As Delhi Chief Minister

Feb 20, Kathmandu- Bharatiya Janata Party MP Rekha Gupta has taken oath as the Chief Minister of the central capital Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony held at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. Indian media reported that Chief Minister Gupta was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Binay Kumar Saxena.

Gupta had been elected from Shalimarbagh. She has also been the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi before and is also the General Secretary of BJP Delhi and Vice President of Mahila Morcha. Along with Gupta, Pravesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravindra Indraj Singh, Ashish Sood, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh have taken oath as ministers.

The BJP, which returned to power after 27 years, won 48 out of the total 70 seats. The Delhi BJP parliamentary party meeting held on Wednesday evening had decided to make Gupta the Chief Minister.

Pravesh Verma defeated Aam Aadmi Party national coordinator Arvind Kejriwal and Congress candidate Sandeep Dixit in the assembly elections from the New Delhi seat. Kapil Mishra, who was also a member of the Aam Aadmi Party before, was also a minister in the Arvind Kejriwal government.

In the Delhi assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 48 of the 70 seats, ending the Aam Aadmi Party's decade-long rule.
