Feb 20, Kathmandu- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory (travel advisory) regarding Thailand and Myanmar. The ministry issued a statement on Thursday and asked the Nepali citizens who are going to Thailand and Myanmar to exercise caution.
The Ministry has also asked to take special vigilance saying that Nepalese citizens are at risk due to human trafficking, fraud and other criminal activities in these countries.
The travel advisory issued by the ministry mentions cases of Nepalese being lured by lucrative employment opportunities, especially in the information technology (IT) sector. The ministry has said that it has received information that Nepali youth are being wrongly lured and exploited in Thailand and Myanmar on the pretext of high salaries and facilities.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the number of Nepalese forcibly taken to risky areas of Myanmar via Thailand has increased significantly in recent times.
Incidents of Nepalese being subjected to inhuman exploitation, physical and mental torture, and being held hostage are becoming public.
The ministry has urged people not to be tempted by attractive jobs, good salaries and facilities. The ministry has also suggested not to travel illegally and to avoid gangs involved in fraud or human trafficking.
The ministry has also asked people to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Nepali Embassy before accepting any suspicious job offer.
The government has requested that if further information and assistance is required in this regard, people should contact the nearest Nepali Embassy or the concerned body.
