Feb 22, Kathmandu- US President Donald Trump has removed the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, CQ Brown, from his post. He is the highest-ranking US official.
The decision is seen as a major shake-up in the top military leadership. Trump shared the information on social media. Trump also said that five other top officials have been removed.
He wrote on social media, “I thank General Charles ‘CQ’ Brown for more than 40 years of service to our country. He is also currently the chairman of our joint staff.”
Brown was the second black officer in US history to hold the position. The person holding this position advises the president and the secretary of defense on national security matters.
Earlier, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that General Brown should be removed. Later Friday, Defense Secretary Hegseth announced the removal of two more senior military officials.
These include Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff General Jim Slife.
Admiral Lisa Franchetti was the first woman to lead the Navy. The three top officials were removed on Friday and were appointed by former President Joe Biden.
