Congress Leaders Gagan And Rajendra Complain About Trump's Decision To Suspend MCC Project In Nepal

Feb 24, Kathmandu- Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Nepali Congress MP Rajendra Bajgai have complained to the New York Times about the suspension of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a US aid project.

Thapa and Bajgai, who spoke to the New York Times, complained that they played a role in passing the MCC, but the US showed weakness by abruptly stopping it.

Thapa told the New York Times that the process of issuing the $500 million aid was very difficult, “It was risky, difficult.” Thapa told the New York Times, recounting the issuance of the MCC, “There were a lot of geopolitical complexities.”

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress MP Rajendra Bajgai has also linked geopolitical issues by pointing to China. Describing the situation after the MCC went to the New York Times, Bajgain said of the incident where the MCC was stopped, “It was shocking”.

Linking the MCC to China, Bajgai said, “They made it easy for their neighbors, especially China. The Chinese are celebrating. They will come to our office and say – look, this is what America does”.
