Mar 01, Kathmandu- The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office of the White House on Friday turned into a heated debate.
Trump has warned that Zelensky does not want peace and that the United States will withdraw from the war if he does not make a deal. Trump has also accused Zelensky of disrespecting the United States and the American people, claiming that Ukraine cannot win a war with Russia.
During the debate between Trump and Zelensky, Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, appeared tense. In a video released from the Oval Office, the Ukrainian ambassador can be seen placing her hands on her forehead and face. Oksana was sitting near the two leaders in the Oval Office, and her anxiety was captured by the world's media cameras.
Zelensky had been visiting the US to broker a deal on precious minerals between the two countries, but that deal has now stalled. A press conference following the meeting was canceled due to the heated dispute between the two leaders, and Zelensky was shown the way out of the White House.
After the meeting, Trump shared a post on Truth Social, making many accusations against Zelensky. Trump said, “A lot of things came up at the meeting. But President Zelensky is not ready for peace because the US is involved. I have no use for it, I want peace.”
Trump said, “He (Zelensky) has insulted the US. If he wants peace, he can come back here.”
After this incident, Zelensky posted on the social network X, saying that Ukraine wants peace. He wrote, “Thank you America, thank you for the help, thank you for this visit, thank you to the US President, Congress and the American people. Ukraine only wants peace and we are working for it.”
He also gave an interview to the American TV channel Fox News. During this, he said that what happened in the Oval Office in front of the world media was not good. However, during this, he also said that he was confident that his relationship with Trump could be saved.
