Mar 06, Kathmandu- The government has deported 54 American citizens in 2024. According to a Home Ministry source, the Immigration Department has deported 54 American citizens.
The Immigration Department has expelled those who were staying in Nepal illegally even after their visas expired.
The government has expelled a total of 494 foreign nationals in 2024. Most of those expelled are those who overstayed their visas. Similarly, 45 people were expelled for other offenses, according to the source. Among them, the Ministry of Home Affairs says that there are those accused of rape and child sexual abuse.
According to the Immigration Act 2049, there is a provision that foreign citizens can be deported with or without a specified period. According to the Immigration Procedures 2065, there is also a provision that allows expulsion with a ban on re-entry into Nepal for 10 years, depending on the nature of the offense.
Foreign citizens are allowed to stay in Nepal on a tourist visa for up to 150 days in a visa year. If they stay longer than that period, they are considered overstayed.
