Mar 13, Kathmandu- The Independent Students Union (ISU) elections will be held on Chaitra 5.
A deadline has been set for candidates who have filed their candidacies for the election to withdraw their names.
According to the University of Tribhuvan University, the deadline for withdrawing candidacies is 1 pm today.
As of Wednesday, office bearers have been elected unopposed in 82 campuses. According to the statistics of the 2079 SBU election, there are 62 affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University and 1,040 affiliated campuses across the country. Preparations are underway to hold simultaneous elections in all of them.
Looking at history, the SBU elections at TU have been held in a direct system since BS 2018-19. They were held every year until 2030. But since 2036 BS, due to problems with the work being done every year, elections have been held every two years.
In TU, since BS 2073 BS, elections were held in nine campuses in the valley and 17 outside according to the mixed system. Elections could not be held due to disputes at other campuses.
Although it was said to be held every two years, it had not been held regularly since 2065 BS. After Chaitra 6, 2065 BS, the SBU elections were held on Chaitra 15, 2073 BS, in eight years. The last time the SBU elections were held was on Chaitra 5, 2079 BS.
