Mar 16, Kathmandu- Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has recognized the challenges the government is encountering in managing its expenditures due to difficulties in revenue generation.
During a session of the House of Representatives on Sunday, Minister Poudel elaborated that the shortfall in revenue has led to a reduced budget allocation for mandatory liabilities in the current fiscal year's budget.
He pointed out that although a target was established to collect 31 percent of the revenue, the budget set aside for mandatory liabilities is still inadequate.
"Our general expenditures are surpassing our revenue, which has hindered our ability to return to fiscal discipline while formulating the budget", Poudel stated.
"We must not postpone this any further. This amendment bill has been proposed to ensure that we take our responsibilities seriously in restoring discipline during the budget preparation process."
He also mentioned that maintaining discipline in budget allocation has become increasingly challenging, particularly with the introduction of 11,000 new development projects in the current fiscal year.
