Mar 16, Kathmandu- The United States has launched its first airstrikes against Yemen's Houthi rebels under President Donald Trump, killing at least 31 people in airstrikes on Sunday in areas including the capital Sanaa, the AFP news agency reported.
Trump has warned of even stronger action. Women and children were among the 31 killed in the attack. More than 100 were injured in the attack.
A powerful explosion was heard in the Houthi-controlled area of Sanaa. A large plume of smoke rose into the sky after the explosion. Anis al-Asbahi, a spokesman for the Houthi Health Ministry, said: "Most of the wounded and dead are women and children."
US President Trump has issued a stark warning to the rebels. He posted on social media, "Houthi terrorists, your time is up. You must stop your attacks today. If you do not stop, you will be attacked like you have never seen before."
The US has identified the Houthis as a major threat due to their attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea. The US military has previously carried out airstrikes on various Houthi military positions in Yemen. With this warning from the Trump administration, tensions in Yemen are likely to increase further. The news reports state that the US may take a larger military action if the Houthis continue their activities.
