Mar 24, Kathmandu- The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programs in Nepal are currently on hold. With the US government stopping USAID's programs, its office in Kathmandu has been closed.
USAID mainly supports education, health, agriculture, environment, etc. The United States has been supporting Nepal's economic, social, and infrastructure development for a long time. USAID has been continuously operating various programs in Nepal through grant assistance since 1951.
The announcement made by US President Donald Trump on January 20th had a direct impact on USAID. His announcement to hold all US grant programs for three months has left the future of USAID uncertain. Its billion-dollar programs in Nepal have also been put on hold.
According to a representative of USAID Nepal, the project is now completely stalled in Nepal. USAID's website has been shut down. The USAID Nepal office in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, has also been locked down and thousands of employees associated with it have been sent home.
