Mar 25, Kathmandu- The lock on the Service Commission office of Purbanchal University, which was put in place 25 days ago, has not yet been removed. Students of the Nepal Students' Union, a sister organization of the Nepali Congress, had put the lock on it on Falgun 17.
The Nepali Students' Union has locked the commission's office, claiming that the advertisement for promotion to the post of associate professor was illegal.
Commission Chairman Mahesh Prasad Dahal, who is going on leave after Chaitra 21, had previously tried to promote employees and teachers. Most of the commission's employees have already been promoted. The interview date for the promotion to associate professor was set for Falgun 18. The process has been disrupted after the lockout.
According to Abhishek Bhattarai, a central member of the Nepali Students' Union, the lockout was imposed in protest after the promotion notice was issued according to the old procedure even though the new procedure was made.
The Purbanchal University operates according to the 2050 Act. Based on the same act, the Purbanchal University Regulations 2053 have been issued. The 35th assembly of the university had amended the regulations.
The Nepali Students' Union claims that the commission has moved forward the process based on the old regulations even though teachers should be selected according to the revised regulations. The students demand that the advertisement for the post of assistant professor be corrected as it is illegal.
Although the revised regulations state that all advertisements for the post of assistant professor should be open, Bhattarai says that the advertisement of the commission is illegal because it is placed under internal competition.
Before the lockout, the Nepali Students' Union had drawn the attention of the commission, urging it to move forward the process according to the revised regulations. The Nepali Students' Union says that the lockout had to be imposed because the commission ignored it.
