Monarchy cannot be an alternative to a democratic republican system: MP Sharma

Mar 31, Kathmandu- CPN-Maoist Center MP Rekha Sharma has said that monarchy is not an alternative to the current federal democratic republican system.

Addressing the House of Representatives meeting today, she said that moving towards monarchy is not an option but only regression. She said that she has never been in favor of regression and will never be. She said, "On Chaitra 15, two events were held in the country's capital, Kathmandu. A public demonstration was held in the name of the Socialist Front in the presence of 50,000 people, including our party. We expressed our determination in favor of the republic, in favor of the constitution, and in favor of a changing environment. The direct command of the Tinkune demonstration was given by the alleged commander Durga Prasai. However, what we all understand is that former King Gyanendra Shah is behind it. At his instigation, in his repeated calls and appeals, the youth have joined in. What I want to demand from the government through the Speaker is that monarchy is not the current system. No one is above the constitution. No one is above the law. "So whether it's former King Gyanendra Shah or Durga Prasai, who is active on social media and is currently hiding, let's take action against everyone."

She also demanded that the government immediately bring former King Gyanendra Shah and the alleged Janakmandar Durga Prasai to justice for the violent protests in Tinkune. She said that the question of whether the current monarchy or republic is a futile one. She said that the people's movement of 2062/063 BS was based on the 10-year armed struggle waged by the Maoists and that they fought a 10-year people's war to overthrow the monarchy, and she said that challenging the system was unacceptable.
