Apr 01, Kathmandu- National Independent Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has demanded the lifting of his suspension from the post of MP.
Lamichhane met with House of Representatives Speaker Devraj Ghimire at Singha Durbar on Tuesday and demanded the lifting of the suspension imposed on him.
He said that the request was made to lift the suspension, saying that a money laundering case was deliberately filed against him to suspend him from the post of MP based on political vendetta.
He argued that the suspension of his MP post would affect the House itself if he filed a case related to money laundering in court. Lamichhane said that the Speaker had informed him that he was aware that the issue of registering a case and suspending his MP post could be used as a political weapon.
He said that the case against him was deliberately kept pending in Parsa.
After the case of cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering was registered in the Kaski District Court, Lamichhane's MP post was automatically suspended from Paush 7.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat had issued a notice on Paush 8 stating that Lamichhane's post was suspended. The Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been claiming that its president cannot be suspended from being an MP as per the rules of parliament. The RSP has already met Speaker Ghimire and drawn his attention to the same issue.
