Gyanendra Shah's Secretariat says: Nirmal Niwas does not take responsibility for the Tinkune incident

Apr 01, Kathmandu- The Secretariat office of former King Gyanendra Shah has stated that Nirmal Niwas does not take responsibility for the violence, vandalism, arson, and looting that occurred during the royalist protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu on Chaitra 15.

He argues that whoever organized the demonstration on that day is responsible for the incident.

The demonstration was organized by the ‘United People’s Movement Committee’ for the Restoration of the Monarchy, formed under the coordination of Nawaraj Subedi. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhaval Shumsher Rana also participated in it.

But the local government, namely the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has already determined that the former King Shah is primarily responsible for the garbage and vandalism committed that day and has already imposed a fine, right?

In response to a question from Nepal News, Communication Secretary Dr. Pathak said, "He should have taken responsibility. The committee that organized the program should have taken the fine. I don't think a person like the mayor would have understood that."

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has already written a letter to former King Shah, imposing a fine of 793,000 rupees for the garbage and damage caused that day.

"The district administration will approve the program for that day, and the program will be organized accordingly, and the responsibility will fall on the king", said Pathak, "Is there an investigation for that too? He (the mayor of Kathmandu) should realize it, make corrections. If there is a mistake, it will be corrected".

Communication Secretary Pathak insisted that the program on Falgun 25 was only that of former King Shah. On that day, former King Shah, who returned from Pokhara after a visit of about a month, was grandly welcomed by the RPP, RPP Nepal and Durga Prasai group, including the royalists, and raised slogans against the republic.

"Didn’t he come to Kathmandu from Pokhara in such a dignified manner? What about the program on Falgun 25 that he called for", said Pathak, "Did he say at that time that he would go to Narayanhiti with the masses? People say whatever they want".

On the allegation that former King Shah had called Durga Prasai to meet him at Nirmal Niwas the day before the Tinkune violence, he said he did not know.

"I do not have all the information about whom he is meeting now", said Shah’s communication secretary Pathak, "but he did not appoint Durga as a commander; the king did not give instructions".

Two people were killed in a demonstration in Tinkune on Chaitra 15 demanding the restoration of the monarchy, while more than a dozen houses, offices, media houses, and business establishments were vandalized, arsoned, and looted.

The police have already registered a case against 41 people, including RPP Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana, on charges of involvement in the incident, and 20 more people have been arrested as of Tuesday, according to the police.
