Apr 01, Kathmandu- Resident doctors at private medical colleges have warned that they will boycott all services if the government does not provide them with the subsistence allowance as prescribed within 24 hours.
The Safe Workplace Struggle Committee for Health Workers issued a statement today, giving 24 hours to resident doctors pursuing MD, MS, and MDS to pay the prescribed subsistence allowance.
The 16th meeting of the Medical Education Commission had decided to provide a subsistence allowance equivalent to the eighth grade to resident doctors pursuing their master's degree in private medical colleges. However, the statement states that even after the decision, the subsistence allowance has not been received.
The Struggle Committee has stated that it will boycott the entire service if the stipulated subsistence allowance is not paid within 24 hours. Struggle Committee Chairman Dr. Sheshraj Ghimire said that the resident doctors have not received the subsistence allowance as stipulated by the government.
He said that the committee has decided that the decision made by the Prime Minister in the 16th meeting of the commission must be implemented and that if it is not, the entire service will be boycotted.
The Medical Education Commission has cut seats in 17 private medical colleges after private medical college operators said they could not pay the eighth-grade salary as prescribed by the government. Matching has begun only in government and community colleges for MD, MS and MDS, which will be operational from next Baisakh.
