Apr 06, Kathmandu- Teachers have started a whistle rally, saying the government has not moved forward with the School Education Bill. Led by the Nepal Teachers Federation, teachers today took out a whistle rally.
They have drawn the government's attention by blowing whistles from Maitighar to Baneshwor. Teachers from all over the country have started their agitation since Wednesday, centered in Kathmandu. The federation had been protesting since Magh 20, demanding the promulgation of the School Education Act.
They have warned that the teachers will go on an academic strike if the government does not fulfill their demands by Chaitra 25. Issuing a statement on Sunday, the federation has called on all the teachers to join the movement by stopping work such as checking answer sheets and publishing results during the academic strike. 'We strongly urge all the friends not to engage in any work such as checking answer sheets, publishing results, training seminars, seminars, and educational visits during this period,' the statement said.
Teachers have been protesting by dancing, chanting slogans, sleeping on the streets and in various creative ways.
Meanwhile, despite the government's call for talks, the teachers have not sat down for talks. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has also expressed his commitment to resolving the problems of the teachers. 'I would like to thank the teachers. They have come out in protest with trust in the government. Earlier, they did not protest like this. Now they believe that the government will listen to them after raising their voices,' he said. He alleged that no matter how much the previous government protested, they were not listened to. He had said that the problem would be resolved even if a delegation came instead of protesting.
