Apr 07, Kathmandu- Police have arrested Anita Kunwar, alias Annie, on charges of being involved in the violent protests that took place in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on Chaitra 15. A video of Kunwar leaving the house where journalist Suresh Rajak was burnt down was made public as the fire continued.
The Criminal Investigation Office has said that Kunwar, a 15-year-old girl from Namovuddha, Kavre, has been arrested based on the evidence included in the video. The police claim that he was also involved in the violent protests that took place that day, in which two people were killed.
Before leaving the house, he is seen in the video saying something to Suresh outside the burned room. Those who were with him are throwing the belongings inside onto the street. He is seen standing on top as the fire continues to burn. Although he leaves shortly after, the room is also locked when he is later seen.
The men who came out with her covered their faces with cloths. After leaving there, she went live on Facebook saying that there was a fire. But those who were protesting with her vandalized the fire engine that went to put out the fire and did not allow it to be extinguished.
After the royalists obstructed in this way, the police also arrived and failed to put out the fire immediately. It was confirmed only later that journalist Rajak died after being burned in the same fire.
The police have arrested Kunwar on charges of his involvement in the same incident. The Investigation Office has also sent him to the Kathmandu District Police Complex for further investigation.
Two people were killed when the protest organized by the RPP and Durga Prasai turned violent. The protesters vandalized and set fire to people's houses.
Later, they set fire to government vehicles, including police vehicles, and private vehicles. They vandalized CCTV cameras at various places and looted the Bhatbhateni Complex. The police have detained more than 70 people in these incidents and are investigating.
RPP Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra and MP Dhaval Shamsher Rana, who is also the General Secretary, are also in custody. However, some people, including Durga Prasai, who was designated as the commander of this demonstration, are still absconding. The police are identifying and arresting them by looking at the videos of the incident that day.
