Apr 08, Kathmandu- The Supreme Court of Nepal and the Supreme Court of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of judicial cooperation.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two courts in a ceremony held in Delhi today to develop, promote and strengthen judicial cooperation between the two countries. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Justice of Nepal Prakash Man Singh Raut and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. Chief Justice Raut is on a visit to India. Inspired by the cordial and friendly relations between the two countries and their peoples, the MoU aims to develop, promote and strengthen cooperation between the judiciaries of the two countries.
The MoU aims to encourage mutual exchange of information on recent developments in the field of law and justice, as well as to promote interaction between judges and officials at different levels of the judiciary through programs such as exchange of visits, short-term and long-term training and educational programs. Recognizing the importance of using technology to complete pending cases, expedite court processes and provide better services to stakeholders, the MoU provides for sharing of information related to technology used in the respective courts and other institutions. According to the MoU, a joint working group comprising officials of the two judiciaries will be formed to promote and further strengthen judicial cooperation and to prepare a plan and framework for this.
The Government of India and the Supreme Court of India have already signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for judicial cooperation with the Supreme Court of Israel, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the Supreme Court of Bhutan, the Government of Tunisia, the Government of Zambia, the Government of Morocco, the Government of Maldives and other countries and institutions.
