Two Thai And One Indian National Arrested With Five Kg Of Foreign Marijuana

Apr 10, Kathmandu- Three foreign nationals have been arrested with five kilograms of foreign marijuana that was smuggled through Tribhuvan International Airport. A team from the Narcotics Control Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested two Thai women and an Indian national with 5 kilograms and 200 grams of marijuana.

The marijuana was brought in on Thai Airlines flight TG319, which landed at the airport at 1 pm on Tuesday. The plane had come from Thailand. The marijuana was found on board 27-year-old Thai citizen Kanokwan Pongsuwan. The Bureau team deployed there became suspicious of Pongsuwan when he approached the X-ray machine in the red channel area of ​​the arrivals area of ​​the airport. Later, during a check, the marijuana was found on him, said the Bureau's Information Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Narayan Prasad Adhikari.

Later, during further investigation, it was revealed that two more people were involved in marijuana smuggling with him. In which, the police have also arrested another 24-year-old Thai woman, Chonlada Ninchatturat, and 31-year-old Indian citizen, Jamshed Malik Kuppatil.

During the investigation, it was further revealed that the main dealer was in Thailand and from there, the Thai woman was 'transiting' the marijuana to Nepal and then transporting it to various cities in India through Indian citizens, according to the police.

Similarly, this group has been found to be trafficking drugs in the Gulf countries using various routes between Nepal and India, according to the police.

In Nepal, marijuana has also been found to be imported from countries including the US and Europe. Most of the destination of the drug is India.
