Apr 13, Kathmandu- A petition against the order to send Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane to pre-trial detention has been filed in the bench of Supreme Court Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana.
On Chaitra 22, the Tulsipur bench of the High Court had ordered Lamichhane to be sent to pre-trial detention. The high court had pointed out that keeping him out of custody and allowing him to fight the case would boost the morale of those involved in the fraud and cause further suffering to the victims.
Lamichhane, who was taken into police custody on Chaitra 22 after the order, is currently in pretrial detention.
In the Supreme Cooperative Fraud case in Butwal, the Rupandehi District Court bench of Judge Prahlad Kumar Yogi had ordered Lamichhane to be released on a bail of Rs 10 million.
However, the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court overturned the district's order on an appeal filed by the government attorney and Lamichhane himself.
