Hospital In Gaza Destroyed In Israeli Attack

Apr 13, Kathmandu- A part of the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, the only operating hospital in Gaza, was destroyed in an airstrike by the Israeli army on Sunday. Quoting eyewitnesses, the hospital's intensive care and surgery departments were destroyed due to the attack, BBC said.

A video posted on social media shows a large fire and smoke billowing from the two-story building after a missile hit it. The video shows some patients in hospital beds and others fleeing the scene.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said the hospital was home to a command and control center for the Palestinian group Hamas, which is believed to be behind the attack.

A local journalist at the hospital had called a doctor working in the IDF emergency department and told him to evacuate the hospital immediately. “All patients and evacuees should go to a safe distance,” the official said. “We only have 20 minutes to get out.”

The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, which is affiliated with the hospital, said a child died from head injuries after being rushed out of the hospital. The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza said the hospital building had been completely destroyed. The ministry said patients and hospital staff had to be evacuated after the attack.
