Former King Expresses Sorrow Over The Incident That Took Place On Chaitra 15 In The Name Of Monarchy

Apr 13, Kathmandu- Former King Gyanendra Shah has expressed grief over the violent incident in Tinkune. Releasing a video message today on the occasion of the New Year 2082, he expressed grief over the Tinkune incident and urged the Nepalese to be aware of the country and its future.

"It is a beautiful feature of democracy that different parties and classes of society are allowed to express their views and opinions. But everyone should exercise restraint when presenting such views and beliefs." Former King Shah said, "The kind of violence, arson, and vandalism that took place during the public demonstration a few days ago caused human and material damage. We were deeply saddened to hear that."

Shah also said that in places where there is real democracy, there is a tradition and culture of listening to good or bad people's complaints or praises. He said, "There is no greater tantra or debate than civil liberties." He said, "There is no greater system or argument than civil freedom. Real democracy exists where there is a tradition and culture of listening to good and bad public complaints or praise." Shah claimed that the patriotic spirit among the Nepali people is exemplary in the world.

A journalist and a civilian were killed during a protest by the royalists on Chaitra 15. The royalist movement saw acts of vandalism and arson, including the destruction of personal and public property, including houses, shops, Annapurna Post and Kantipur offices, political party offices, government and private vehicles.

Earlier, a meeting of pro-republican parties convened at the call of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli concluded that former King Gyanendra Shah should take responsibility for the violence in the Tinkune area. Medical practitioner Durga Prasai, who played a key role in inciting violence in Tinkune in the name of the royalists, has been arrested. Prasai is accused of inciting violence during the royalist protest on Chaitra 15. The police are continuing their investigation and search for those involved in the incident.
