NMA Issues 72-hour 'Ultimatum' With Two-point Demands, Will Stage Protest If Not Addressed

Apr 14, Kathmandu- The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has given the government a 72-hour 'ultimatum' with two demands.

A press release signed by Nepal Medical Association General Secretary Dr. Sanjiv Tiwari on Monday said, 'The matching process should be started immediately in a way that does not reduce PG seats in the future by including the number of seats added again by the 17th meeting in the seat matrix published by the commission. Resident doctors currently studying at the postgraduate level and resident doctors who will study in the future should immediately get a pension equivalent to the eighth level.'

If the aforementioned demands are not addressed within 72 hours, the Nepal Medical Association has also warned that all doctors in the country will go on a phased protest.

"The 16th meeting of the Medical Education Commission has decided to provide pension to all resident doctors at the salary equivalent to that of an eighth-level medical officer of the Government of Nepal, and the immediate and unconditional implementation of that decision is the ultimate goal of the Nepal Medical Association," the press release said.

Resident doctors studying in various private medical colleges and students struggling to study at various postgraduate levels including MDRMS and MDS have been protesting for a long time.
