Apr 15, Kathmandu- A Kathmandu-centric movement of teachers across the country, led by the Nepal Teachers Federation, is ongoing, demanding the promulgation of the School Education Act.
The teachers, who started the movement on Chaitra 20, have been continuing their movement in the Maitighar-Naya Baneshwor area by going on an academic strike.
Even though the government has issued a circular to local levels and schools across the country to enroll students for the new academic session starting today, teachers have taken a stand that they will not return to school until their demands are met.
The teachers' strike has affected the student enrollment campaign, while the work of checking the answer sheets of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) has not yet begun.
In a statement issued after the Federation's meeting held on Monday evening, it has urged all principals and teachers and staff not to engage in any work such as checking answer sheets, publishing results, entrance exams, student admissions, training, symposiums, seminars, and educational tours until the demands are met.
Similarly, the Federation has appealed to center heads and invigilators not to engage in any work, including the Class 12 examination, which will begin on Baisakh 11.
The Federation has also requested students, parents, school management committees, villages/municipalities and all educational stakeholders to support and participate in the movement for proper management and quality development of school education by promulgating the School Education Act.
The Federation has stated that it is forced to intensify the movement further as the government has not shown any seriousness in fulfilling its demands despite holding talks and dialogues with the Ministry of Education twice.
