Apr 18, Kathmandu- So far this year's pre-monsoon season, 41 people have died in disasters.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has stated that 257 people have been injured during the current pre-monsoon season and that economic losses amounting to crores have been incurred.

According to the authority, the period from mid-Falgun to mid-Jestha, i.e. from March to May in the English month, is generally called pre-monsoon.

During the pre-monsoon period, the weather generally deteriorates during the afternoon, evening and night due to the influence of local winds, resulting in hail, windstorms, thunder and lightning in some places in Nepal.

Currently, light to moderate scattered rains with thunder and lightning are occurring in some places in the country mainly due to the influence of local winds and westerly winds, and according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the NEA has stated that this weather condition will continue for a few more days.

The NEA has also urged people to be vigilant to minimize potential loss of property and lives from disasters that may occur due to weather conditions during the pre-monsoon period.
