Harvard Files Lawsuit Against Trump Administration

Apr 22, Kathmandu- Harvard University has filed a lawsuit against the Donald Trump administration.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, Harvard President Alan M. Garber said.

The Trump administration withheld more than $2 billion in federal funding from Harvard, accusing it of failing to address alleged anti-Semitism and pursuing liberal politics.

“The consequences of government overreach will be severe and long-lasting,” said university President Garber in a statement after the lawsuit was filed.

The White House responded to this in a statement on Monday night.

“Federal aid to institutions like Harvard will no longer be readily available. The highly paid administrators of these institutions are enriching themselves at the expense of American taxpayers while ordinary American families are struggling. Taxpayer money is not a right, it is a privilege, and Harvard has failed to meet the basic standards required to enjoy that privilege,” the statement said.

The White House had previously sent Harvard a list of demands.

The White House claimed that the demands were designed to combat anti-Semitism at the university. The demands included changes to the university’s administration, admissions, and hiring processes.

Harvard, however, has steadfastly rejected the demands. The university said, “The White House is trying to control our community.”
