Apr 27, Kathmandu- The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has drawn its attention to the injury of Prime Television journalist Sabina Karki while covering a news event. In a statement, General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal said that the incident has affected press freedom and the constitutional right of citizens to be informed.
Karki was injured when a police water cannon hit her in the eye while she was covering the clash between protesting teachers and police in Kathmandu's Naya Baneshwor today. The injured journalist Karki is currently undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital, Trauma Center and Tilganga Eye Hospital.
The Federation has stated that the police attack on journalist Karki, who is engaged in fulfilling her religious duty of informing the citizens, is highly condemnable and regrettable. The Federation has prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured journalist Karki, demanded an investigation into the incident, legal action against the culprits, and all arrangements for the treatment of the injured journalist.
