Vice President Yadav Meets With British Ambassador Fenn

Apr 28, Kathmandu- Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has received a courtesy call from His Excellency Robert Dominic Russell Fenn, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal.

The courtesy call was held at the Vice President's Office in Lainchaur, Kathmandu on Monday, after which important discussions were held on various aspects of bilateral relations.

Vice President Yadav, while discussing the close ties that have existed between Nepal and the United Kingdom for centuries, said that diplomatic relations were established in 1816. He recalled that the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Nepal and the United Kingdom would be celebrated grandly in 2023 by organizing various programs.

He mentioned the United Kingdom as Nepal's major development partner and thanked it for the support provided to Nepal in times of crisis. "The political, economic, cultural and people-to-people ties between our two countries are unique, and have been further strengthened in recent days," said Vice President Yadav. "I appreciate the contribution of the British Gurkhas in strengthening bilateral people-to-people ties."

He said that it is necessary to conclude the ongoing discussions at the diplomatic level in a timely manner to address the legitimate grievances of former British Gurkhas. Discussing the ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue’ established by Nepal with the aim of initiating a debate on climate change and issues that may arise in the global environment, Vice President Yadav said, “The first edition of this dialogue to be organized in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18 is expected to have high-level participation from the United Kingdom on the topic of ‘Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity.’”

Vice President Yadav requested His Excellency the Ambassador to convey his best wishes for personal happiness and good health to His Majesty King Charles and His Majesty Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom.

His Excellency the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal, Robert Dominic Russell Fenn, stated that Nepal and the United Kingdom are close friends who work together and expressed the UK's support for the 'Sagarmatha Dialogue' that Nepal is going to hold.

"The UK is in constant dialogue with the Nepali Embassy in London on industrial and economic issues." He said, "Efforts are being made to resolve the problem by continuing dialogue with the Nepali Embassy in London on issues including services and facilities for British Gurkhas."
