iPhones shipped to the US will have 'Made in India' written on them

May 02, Kathmandu- Apple is moving most of the production of iPhones and other devices sold in the United States from China. Apple will now manufacture iPhones in other countries instead of China due to President Donald Trump's tariffs.

“In the coming months, most iPhones bound for the US market will now be made in India. Vietnam will also be a major manufacturing hub for items like iPads and Apple Watches,” Chief Executive Tim Cook said.

Despite Trump's decision to exempt major electronics from the new tariffs, the technology giant estimates that US import taxes could add 900 million burdens to its costs as they currently stand. But the Trump administration has repeatedly said that Apple should move production to the US.

“We expect the majority of iPhones sold in the US to come from India,” Cook said.

Vietnam, he said, will be the main manufacturing hub for nearly all iPads, Macs, Apple Watches and AirPods products sold in the US.

China will remain the country of origin for the vast majority of total products sold outside the US. Apple shares fell after Trump announced his administration would impose reciprocal tariffs on products imported into the US.

But his administration has faced significant pressure to moderate its plans. Shortly after the tariffs were imposed, it announced exemptions for some electronics, including phones and computers, but others are less certain.
