May 03, Kathmandu- Voting begins today for the Australian general election. The main competition in this election is between incumbent Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and opposition leader Peter Eaton.
Albanese, a Labor Party leader who has been in parliament for nearly 30 years, has been prime minister since 2022. Albanese, who gained good popularity in his early days after becoming prime minister, has recently faced pressure over housing problems, ethnic issues and some religious issues.
Another prime ministerial candidate, Peter, the leader of the Conservative-Liberal-National coalition, has been embroiled in controversy over his social and religious views. Peter has experience holding important ministries including defense and home affairs. Australian voters have made rising inflation a major issue in the country. Both prime ministerial candidates have promised to control inflation if they form a government, the BBC reported.
