India's Construction Of Embankment On Nepali Land, UML Demands Immediate Diplomatic Initiative

May 03, Kathmandu- Local political parties and residents have opposed the construction of an embankment by India on Nepali land across the Birendra Forest in the district headquarters, Khalanga.

India is constructing an embankment on Nepali land that fell into India's hands after the 2070 BS floods.

The Nepal Communist Party (UML) District Committee has submitted a memorandum to the Chief District Officer demanding that diplomatic initiatives be taken to stop the unilateral construction of an embankment by the Indian side on Nepali territory.

Neighboring India is constructing an embankment on the banks of the Mahakali River, which flows through Mahakali Municipality-4 and 5. District Committee Chairman Gyanendra Gharti said that a memorandum has been submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Chief District Officer Anil Poudel to stop the construction of the embankment, which is changing not only Nepali land but also the river's course.

He informed that the attention of the foreign ministry has been drawn to the issue through diplomatic means as soon as possible. Informing that an embankment is being constructed across the international border in the area beyond the Gulfai and Khula Mancha of the Mahakali River, Chairman Gharti demanded that it be stopped.

Chief District Officer Poudel informed that he has written to immediately initiate diplomatic initiatives regarding the embankment being constructed by India. He said that he is in constant contact with his Indian counterparts and has requested them to stop the construction.
