May 06, Kathmandu- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given legitimacy to the NRNA team unanimously elected on Sunday under the leadership of Mahesh Shrestha. The Ministry, through a high-level committee led by Dr. Shesh Ghale, has written another petition to withdraw the petition it had earlier filed with the Supreme Court to postpone the general convention, recognizing the convention held at Hayat Regency on Baisakh 21.
The ministry, which has the authority to make decisions regarding NRNA, had earlier filed a petition with the Supreme Court to hold the Unity General Convention on Kartik 4, 2082. On Tuesday, the ministry sent a letter to the Attorney General's Office to the Supreme Court to move forward with the process of withdrawing the petition.
“In Writ No. 079-WO-1507 filed by Rajesh Shumsher Rana in the esteemed court, making the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a respondent, the esteemed Supreme Court has issued a directive order in the name of this Ministry stating that ‘the high-level committee shall hold a general convention of unity within 6 months of the first meeting of the committee and this Ministry shall coordinate in the said work as per the order dated 2080/12/21. In accordance with the directive order of the esteemed Supreme Court, the period for holding the general convention of unity within 6 months of the first meeting of the high-level committee’ has been extended by an additional 6 months to hold elections after 2082/07/04, as per Rule 134 (1) of the Supreme Court Rules 2074, the original and 1/1 copy of the petition registered on behalf of this Ministry with the esteemed Supreme Court on 2082/01/05 has been sent herewith,” the letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states, “The original copy of the said petition may be registered in the esteemed Supreme Court as per the decision dated 2082/01/23. (Ministerial level) request.”
Along with the Supreme Court's letter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recognized the team led by Mahesh Shrestha, who was elected on Sunday, Baisakh 21. The NRNA secretariat is currently under the control of the Badri KC team, who was elected at the 11th general convention.
Although the Supreme Court Judgment Implementation Directorate has repeatedly sent letters to the high-level committee to hand over the secretariat and hold the general convention on the scheduled date, the KC-led team has not yet handed over the secretariat.
